The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled its U-19 World Cup Team of the Tournament, featuring four Indian players, including captain Uday Saharan and star batter Musheer Khan. Sachin Dhas and Saumy Pandey also earned spots in the team, highlighting India’s strong presence. Despite an impressive performance throughout the tournament, India finished as runners-up after a 79-run loss to Australia in the final, ending their unbeaten run in the competition.
Musheer Khan secures the number three spot in the batting lineup as the only player to score two centuries during the competition. Despite a quiet finish to the tournament, Musheer showed early promise, showcasing a variety of attacking shots and contributing with his left-arm spin.
Saharan, the leading run-scorer of the tournament, played a pivotal role in India’s dominant run to the final. Scoring consistently throughout the event, including centuries against Nepal, Saharan’s standout performance came in the semi-final against South Africa, where his vital 81 runs single-handedly saved India from elimination and secured their spot in the final.
Saharan found a reliable partner in Sachin Dhas during that crucial semi-final match. Dhas, known for his ability to handle pressure, earned his place in the Team of the Tournament for his innovative and aggressive stroke play. He scored 116 runs against Nepal and played a crucial role with a career-best score of 96 against South Africa.
Saumy Pandey, completing India’s recognized lineup, dominated with his left-arm spin, taking 18 wickets—the highest among spinners in the tournament. His economical bowling was evident in his impressive performances, such as taking four wickets for 24 runs against Bangladesh and four wickets for 19 runs against New Zealand.
South Africa’s Luan-dre Pretorius takes on wicketkeeping duties and leads the batting lineup, thanks to a series of explosive performances that helped propel the Proteas to the semi-finals. Pretorius is joined at the top of the order by Australia’s Harry Dixon, who consistently delivered valuable contributions during the knockout stages.
At number four, Australia’s Hugh Weibgen played a vital role in securing Australia’s fourth U-19 Men’s World Cup title. Weibgen contributed crucial runs and demonstrated astute on-field decision-making, which significantly influenced Australia’s successful campaign.
West Indies’ all-rounder Nathan Edward stood out for his team, particularly during their win against England in Potchefstroom. Chasing a big target, Edward took three wickets and scored 49 runs, playing a key role in his team’s victory.
Australia’s Callum Vidler thrived on the fast, bouncy South African pitches, constantly posing a threat to opposition batters throughout the tournament.
Pakistan’s Ubaid Shah delivered scintillating performances, leading their bowling attack with fiery pace. Shah’s crucial wicket-taking spells, including 3 for 30 against New Zealand and 5 for 44 against Bangladesh, played a key role in Pakistan’s victories.
Kwena Maphaka set the tournament alight with his blistering pace and remarkable swing. He claimed three five-wicket hauls, including one on the opening day against the West Indies, and continued to excel with standout performances in wins over Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.
